with former Maine House Representative

at Eclipse Restaurant

2 Park Drive, Rockland, ME

May 3, 2017

5:15pm - 7:30pm

Joan Welsh will join us for a discussion of the importance of women’s involvement in state and local issues; the differences we can make; and how and where to get information.

Joan moved to Maine from Colorado where she was deeply involved in women’s issues, especially stopping domestic violence where she was a founder and  Executive Director of a shelter for abused women and children.  At that time she also was the chair of the Colorado Domestic Violence Coalition and the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence.  She served as the Deputy Director of Colorado Outward Bound before being hired as the President/CEO of Hurricane Island Outward Bound (1991- 2000).  She then served as Deputy Director of the Natural Resources Council of Maine.  During all this time she was active politically dealing with domestic violence legislation and environmental policy.  She was elected to the Maine House of Representatives in 2008 where she also was House Chair of the Environment and Natural Resources committee for 4 years.  She retired from the legislature in December due to term limits.
