An online review service tool that gives biz owners a voice
|
Yelp Yelp is one of the fastest growing online review services (with a bit of social networking built in) for just about any business in any town. More than 20 million users are flocking to Yelp to add their personal reviews. Try searching your town and see what's already being reviewed. From restaurants to shoe stores--just about any business out there can get a posted review. If you have a business what does this mean for you? You can track how many people view your business on Yelp, do private customer messaging, and immediately update information about your business. But don't get your friends and family to post glowing reviews --Yelp doesn't like that. Instead, Yelp now offers business owners a chance to respond to customer reviews--which is a very powerful tool in managing your public image.

The art of networking goes digital
|
LinkedIn
It's the one of the best networking tools on the 'Net right now that the news media and bloggers can't stop talking about-- LinkedIn. What does that mean? It means this social networking application is a power tool for keeping you and your business or profession visible on The Internet to do three things: 1. Promote your company or profession. 2. Find a job either full-time or consulting. 3. Network with people in your current and past professions.

evite Use this fun, digital invitation to network your next event.
|
evite
This kicky little web application, once used primarily as electronic invitation to baby showers and birthday parties has now morphed into a neat networking tool. Case in point, a jewelry designer in midcoast Maine recently hosted a tupperware-style party at her home featuring her jewelry. She used evite as her PR and the party was a great success (netting her a nice sum.) The "design-your-own" invitation option allows you to upload your own images and customize background and colors. You may also: import your own email list, include a pop-up map to your place of business and add a personal message to your clients. Best of all, for each evite, you will be able to view all of the guests’ responses (along with their own talking avatars). And for the cell phone users: you can send an automatic reminder to your guests of the upcoming event by cell phone. Check out evite!

Twitter Tell people what you're doing right this very second!
|
Twitter
The New York Times calls it "one of the fastest growing phenomena on the Internet"; it's been mentioned all over the media; it is considered by some female networking sites to be an indispensible tool, we're talking about Twitter-- a real-time short messaging service that works over multiple networks and devices. Twitter is a service for friends, family, and co–workers to communicate and stay connected through the exchange of quick, frequent communications. Unlike having a social networking profile (which has its pros and cons for the professional), Twitter is an online and mobile phone tool to let your coworkers, clients and friends know what you're doing every minute of the day! I know, it sounds exhausting, right? But imagine running late to a meeting. One mini text into twitter lets everyone know your immediate status, so you're not fumbling with the cell phone and coffee while driving. Want to see MWN's Twitter message? Check us out! Want to know how to build a community on Twitter? Let's see if we can get everyone in the MWN network on Twitter so we can see how YOU'RE DOING!

RSS Feed
How To Set Up An RSS Feed in your MWN Profile
|
RSS Feed
Did you know you have an RSS Feed in your MWN Member Profile? If you don't know what an RSS Feed is, here is an easy primer. This is a free tool to keep you and your audience informed on the kind of instant news feeds, blogs and other relevant content that is vital to your business. You set it up not only on your MWN profile, but also on your website and instantly you receive automatic and regularly updated content and news about your profession. The first step is to go into your MWN Profile and choose an RSS reader. Each reader has a slightly different way of adding a new feed (also called a "channel"). In most cases, here's how it works:
1. Click on the small XML button near the channel you want (i.e.: Maine Womens Network Event Calendar). You'll see a page displaying XML code. 2. From your browser, copy the URL that appears in your Address Bar. For example, the URL you would copy for Maine Womens Network Event Calendar is: http://www.RunMyClub.com/RSS/MWNevents.xml 3. Paste that URL into the 'Add New Channel' section of the reader. You should be all set! The RSS feed will start to display and regularly update the headlines for you.

The MWN Custom Search
Need a product or service? Find it instantly through your profile.
If you happened to catch Sasha ZeBryk at our "Celebration of Amazing Women, 2008" event, one of her points about networking is that relationships are the shortest distance between what you need and what you can get. Here, on your MWN profile, did you know there is a built-in search function that will allow you to find any product or service you need within the MWN network in seconds? All you have to do is log in, click on Directory of Members and then click on "Search The Public Member Directory." When that window comes up, scroll down to the very bottom to "Business Category." The arrow on your right hand side has a drop down box listing every category of business offered within the network. And we are adding new members every day. Make sure your profile includes this Business Category so that when someone's fingers do the walking, they are connecting with you!
